Hermans Habitat

Testudo Hermanni

This little tortoise lives in Mediterranean forests, arid grasslands and hillsides covered in scrubby bush. They cover a vast geographical area of Europe covering from France and through to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Serbia.Much of this little fellow’s habitat has been developed and there are therefore few left in the wild.

If you decide to keep this type of tortoise ensure you provide as close a natural habitat as you are able. If you happen to live in a similar climate to that of the natural environment in which this species lives you will be able to build a suitable enclosure outside for it to live in happily. For more in-depth information on keeping and caring for this species go to TortoiseTips.com

Do they make good pets?

These tortoises need to have a dry and sunny enclosure, and as we said, preferably outside. Ensure there are lots of natural fresh plants to hide under and also eat (check what sort of plants may be toxic)

It will also require the provision to burrow into the earth so make sure there is enough security to prevent your pet from escaping.. especially after hibernation when he will want to find a mate!
